Star Wars Outlaws is an open world action adventure set in the criminal underbelly of a galaxy far, far away, during the shadowy stretch between the Rebel victory at Yavin and the events that follow the Empire’s counterstrike. Players take the role of Kay Vess, a small time thief from Canto Bight with big ambitions and a growing list of enemies, who stumbles into a job far above her weight class and ends up hunted by nearly every power that matters. Alongside her is Nix, a fiercely loyal merqaal companion who doubles as a partner in crime. The galaxy on offer is a patchwork of handcrafted planets and moons, from neon soaked pleasure districts and smoke filled cantinas to windswept deserts, jungle ruins and orbital freighter lanes. At its heart, the game is about surviving on the fringes: no Jedi destiny, no chosen one prophecy, just a scoundrel trying to buy her freedom before the syndicates collect what she owes them.

Exploration is largely unrestricted, with a speeder for crossing open terrain and the Trailblazer, Kay’s personal ship, for space travel and dogfights against TIE fighters, pirates and rival crews. Missions lean heavily on infiltration, with stealth, distraction and improvisation encouraged over direct firefights, though her blaster carries multiple firing modes for when subtlety collapses. Nix can be directed to trigger switches, pickpocket targets, sabotage machinery or leap at a guard’s throat, turning the little creature into the most flexible tool in the arsenal. The standout system is reputation: four major crime syndicates track how Kay treats them, and helping one almost always means slighting another, which changes prices, opens or seals off territory, and alters how contacts respond. Progression comes from tracking down expert characters scattered across the worlds and completing their personal challenges to unlock new abilities, rather than from a conventional experience bar. Sabacc tables, contraband smuggling, side contracts and hidden caches fill the space between story beats. The result is a grounded, criminal eyed take on Star Wars that trades lightsabers for lockpicks and bad debts.
