A wacky Punch-Out!! style game made in RPGMaker of all things is an insane concept, and I’m amazed they were able to pull it off as well as they did. It’s a little janky, to be honest, but not enough to really detract from the experience overall. There were definitely problems I had initially regarding the difficulty and some glitches, but bringing it to the dev’s attention allowed them to roll out some hotfixes almost immediately, which is a level of care you don’t often see, and one I admire greatly. This game is strange, challenging, and sometimes frustrating, but that’s what makes it so good. The combat part is intense, juicy and rhythmic, with some battles being quite hard, but that makes them more rewarding.
Creepy Creepy Love Pre-Installed:
The story grows from “Haha, funny take on typical high school anime” to “HOLY CRAP”, leaving you eager to see how it will end and later – to see the other endings. However, I do find it a little frustrating that you can’t skip cutscenes that you’ve already seen. What starts out as a fun take on anime high school tropes quickly evolves into something much darker and disturbing, with the “bad” ending being an absolutely stellar segment and a highlight of the game, reminiscent of Hitchhock and Argento works. Great writing all around, catchy soundtrack, memorable visual style and fun combat system.
