Steer the raft along the river and its ever changing scenery. Watch your supplies and keep your guard while the weather and the cycle of day and night will affect your view. With each run of the game, the river will have a new course and lead you through different landscapes. Your raft will be attacked from the shores and on the water. Defend your vessel and its crew against archers, javelin throwers, spellcasters and many more threats. Choose the right tactics and decide if you want to charge enemies or quietly evade them by floating ahead while they‘re sleeping.
Pick up flotsam, collect drops from defeated enemies or purchase items in settlements along the river. Merchants will have different selections, prices, trading choices and unique items Manage your crew members and improve their strength. Stop your raft at settlements and mercenary camps. Hire crew members such as Archers, Mages, Spearfighters and more. Also discover new crew member classes on your journey. I’m impressed with how playable both the demo was and the early early access game is, how nice it looks, and especially how interactive with the players the development team has been. I’ve seen rapid responses to requested functionality and bugs, and the development team has shown a willingness to consider player suggestions.
Dreadful River Direct Play:
At this writing, the early access has only been running for 3 days, so it is to be expected there’s much more to add or polish, but we’ve already been given much, including the ability to leave the raft to explore, fight, and resource gather on land. I feel like I’m playing a mostly completed game, but then I look at the roadmap the development team maintains on the starting menu, and I see a great many good things in the works that will greatly expand on this current setup. Several have already been implemented. I’m looking forward to a long cruise.
