FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is a modern remake of the classic Japanese horror game Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly. The remake was developed by Team Ninja and published by Koei Tecmo. It was released on March 12, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The story follows two twin sisters, Mio and Mayu Amakura, who become lost in the forest and accidentally enter a mysterious abandoned place called Minakami Village. The village is cursed and filled with vengeful spirits because of an ancient ritual involving twin sacrifices. As the sisters try to escape, they discover the dark secrets behind the ritual and the tragic events that happened in the village long ago.

Gameplay focuses on survival horror exploration. Players walk through dark houses, temples, and forests while solving puzzles and searching for clues about the village’s history. Unlike most horror games where you use guns, this game’s main weapon is the Camera Obscura, a special supernatural camera that can damage ghosts by photographing them at the right moment. Timing your shot when a ghost attacks causes stronger damage and creates intense combat moments. The remake improves many parts of the original game. The graphics, lighting, sound, and character models have been completely rebuilt, making the haunted environments more realistic and terrifying. The village now has deeper shadows, detailed textures, and immersive 3D sound that makes players feel like spirits are nearby even when they cannot see them.
