Final Stardust is a return to basics for Collectible Card Games! It’s built around fast-paced, five minute battles thanks to streamlined, easily understandable gameplay. Thanks to instant effects and positioning your monsters – or Planos – it’s all about how you play the hand you draw, rather than mastery of meta and min-maxing your deck. No overcomplicated effects. No special rules. Just you and your opponent, a stack of cards with easily understandable effects, and an endless variety of tactics to use. What matters is your choice here and now. Mechanics are balanced to ensure fast paced matches that aren’t decided in the first ten seconds by luck of the draw. You can always make a comeback with the next hand if you play the cards right, even if you’re up against the wall. Worried about stalling? A set turn limit ensures each game wraps up quick! You don’t lose a battle to random chance or the opponent having a one-in-a-million combination of exotic effects. It’s all about your choices in each match, making every win and every loss understandable. Once you understand the core mechanics with a few quick matches, it’s all down to skill!
Even when you’re losing, there’s always an opportunity to strike back and win! I’ll begin by saying at this point in time there is not a lot of content, and the developer immediately lets the player know that when they hit new game which is commendable. However, there isn’t much of an indication of that on the Steam store page itself outside of “early access” which can be perceived as intentionally misleading. For example character customization isn’t a implemented feature yet although the store page description advertises for it. While this is a feature that is guaranteed to be implemented on the roadmap it can still lead to some ill first impressions for those that assumed it was already a mechanic in the early access version. So what is available in the early access version? Around 19 low level duels of varying types of decks, and a few packs available to buy (with in-game currency only. Huge thumbs up for no micro-transactions) to help build/customize your deck. This will give you a general idea of how the core game flows, and the general rules.

Some features advertised on Steam page are not yet implemented. Although they are planned to be on the roadmap. No good tutorial. The game is simple enough to eventually learn without it, but there were some things I had to figure out on my own. No way to access game settings outside the main menu. No way to access the main menu from the game menu without quitting the game entirely first. I tried to adjust music volume and had to restart the whole game to access that setting. Currently just one save slot BUT this is on the roadmap to be updated into three. There isn’t a lot of longevity available yet for what this version of early access has to offer, but since the price tag is low it doesn’t hurt to jump in early to support a small dev. However, there are still a lot of features that are “coming soon” or “in progress” so if you are weary about a project that is incomplete then there is nothing wrong with waiting either.
