About The Game
Spring break at the school academy. It is a season filled with both expectation and hesitation as I enter my new life as a student at a new school. I, Ogisawa Asaki, have just moved from the quaint surroundings of my hometown to a new place: the town of Hanao Usaka. My new home is my grandmother’s house that also functions as a café. Due to my grandmother’s recent illness and hospitalization, however, she was forced to close the café until further notice. When I heard about my grandmother’s situation from Chisato Komada (a childhood friend who is like an older sister to me), I looked around the desolate café and my heart was filled with a sense of loneliness. It was then I immediately thought: “I want to bring the shop back to life again and show it to grandmother We renovated the inside of the shop and gave it a new name. We prepared a new menu and café uniforms and began the hiring process to find new, part-time staff. Right away two girls, Niwasaka Rira and Shionomiya Richer came into the cafe. “Um… would it be ok if we worked here?” An unusually strong breeze blew cherry blossom petals inside the shop and they fluttered and danced around the cafe, myself, and the girls around me. This could only be a premonition of the bittersweet tale that would soon follow… Honestly, I found Love’s Sweet Garnish quite special in its own way and probably it was that kind of game I needed once in a while when I want to relax. Whilst my first impression was very accurate of this game,
a lovely and cozy visual novel, I might had more fun than I anticipated in the beginning. To be honest, I probably am biased when it comes to this game since it’s about a café with adorable girls, so I didn’t really have any reason to not like it. I mean, how can I resist playing a game that revolves around girls such as Richer and Rira? Well.. that would be impossible! And luckily, Love’s Sweet Garnish has even more to offer than just adorable girls. Love’s Sweet Garnish opens with Asaki who moves to his hometown, Hanao Usaka, wants to reopen his grandmother’s café, Caramella. Unfortunately, his grandmother suffers from an illness and is, therefore, hospitalized and had to close Caramella. Luckily, his childhood friend is willing to help him with managing the café and along with her, two cute girls apply to work as waitresses. Whilst they’re quite new to this job, Asaki decides to hire them regardless and practices with them beforehand. Reopening the café is a tough task, however, Asaki has a lot of support while trying to reach his goal.
As aforementioned, Love’s Sweet Garnish has more to offer than just a few adorable girls, although that already sold me, however, as I went through the story I found that there are interesting hints here and there that do give a hint that there is something going on in the background, yet it is kept quite secretive. It kept me quite invested into the story and I kept wondering whether the visual novel was going to explain the hints any further, or rather I was hoping that it would do this. In the end, I was quite satisfied as the pieces were set together and although the story wasn’t mindblowing nor totally unexpected I still ended up finding each of them absolutely fitting into the whole atmosphere.
