About The Game
Forge an empire in a universe where population growth is stripping away planetary resources. Colonize unknown planets and trade with other races for their knowledge. MOO2 remains an incredibly well-balanced and deep granddaddy 4X that you absolutely need to dust off every couple years and take for a spin. The variations you experience with random maps, races, traits, and tech tree decisions mean that the replayability is extremely high. It still holds up in 2022, despite the graphics, but I enjoy the quality pixel art MOO2 features.
The first time I played Master of Orion 2 was when it released back in 1996, and it was an instant hit. I played the games for way too many hours in the past and thought I was done with it, when it suddenly arrived in Steam. Of course, I was uncertain how much I would like it, with all the other 4x games which had come and gone and never really scratched that itch I always had (for good 4x games). But when I got this game and played it once more, I realized that it’s not really that the genre and those other games were bad. It’s just that none of them really got up to the level of Master of Orion 2 for me. Now I’m closing on to 600 hours played and once more it’s time to give this game a break and play other things… but it’s always nice to know that this game is in my library, and I’ll pick it up again soon enough to once again become the master of Orion.
