Narcissu 1st & 2nd This is a story of disease and suffering; of medication and adverse effects; of thoracotomy scars and cellular poisons; of the living who cannot help but to die and of the dying who cannot help but to live; of a resting place other than “on 7F” or “at home”. The first thing to note is that this is a visual novel in the truest sense of the phrase. It has absolutely no gameplay mechanics or even choices that are usually found in other visual novels. On top of that, there’s very little art, with a ton of imagery that usually ends up as very simple splash pages As someone whose grandparents died in hospice and was at my father’s side helping take care of him in home hospice, and dealing with health issues myself that have taken a lot from me (and leaving me to fight bitterness every day still) this game is one that I probably should have played long ago. It might have helped a few things, and it may have changed a few things. Be prepared that this game will get heavy.
There are people that will be too afraid to contemplate death for the young and the old to even play. Those are the same people that will leave someone over the same crap and leave them to attempt to come to grips with things on their own. If you are one of the people who has a friend or relative in hospice, or know you are likely heading there yourself some day, then I encourage you to play this game. My mind has always been excited by the idea of the ability of any story to influence a person’s thinking, his emotional state, or the ability to simply linger in his head. And to some extent it is crazy that the story is placed there by an absolutely stranger, but does not lose its closeness to you because of this. But how does this happen? Why can absolutely anyone influence you with their own legend, what should the latter be.
And everything is very simple and difficult at the same time: you need to be sincere and invest a part of yourself. Stage-nana is the most ordinary and “everyday” developers who released an ordinary, at first glance, kinetic novel in 2007. They operated with a soundtrack, a small amount of text and a very regressive picture at that time, but they, unlike many other developers, actually managed to give me an abyss of pleasant memories, a swarm of thoughts and a great many tender feelings. Hence my perception is clouded, and the hand draws only a positive picture of the world of this game.

This game really emphasizes the novel part of visual novel. However, it definitely makes up for it. The music is absolutely fantastic and the story is gripping. It involves following an unnamed protagonist being diagnosed with an incurable disease and being told to live in a hospital. He has to accept the drastic changes that has happened to his life and come to terms with the idyllic life that he lost without knowing it. The game’s message is to not take what you have for granted, and it’s incredibly poignant for most people. Narcissu 1st & 2nd is an incredible experience despite its linearity.
