Deathloop’s core premise makes for an interesting setting, unique among triple A titles. It feels like Arkane were allowed to take a few risks, and created a stand-out experience. Combat is tight and controlled, and the integration of colt’s various powers gives a really slick, fast power trip of a game. The ‘murder puzzle’ aspect is intriguing and drives progress in the early levels. The multiplayer provides an interesting dynamic, giving an interesting challenge to an otherwise straightforward game. Playing as Julianna, hunting down colt, is a lot of fun and very different to the campaign experience.
Outrace Pre-Installed:
Due to the constantly repeating environments and enemy placements, the game only gets easier as it goes along. Being able to repeat sections over and over means you quickly learn AI placements and routes, and by the end of the game It feels trite, like you’re going through the motions to get to your objectives. This isn’t helped at all by the very hand-holdy mission guides that waypoint you through the entire process. I would liked to have used my brain a little. Enemy AI is atrocious. They don’t use cover. They’ll stack up at door ways waiting to be murderd. Run into turrets. Stumble into mines and traps. Stand stock still unloading at you. They will swarm and overwhelm you sometimes, but once you have a spoilery ability, crowds become trivial to deal with.
