Saint Kotar: The Ritual is a free DLC that introduces new intriguing characters, new puzzles, and Viktoria as a new playable character. With two hours of gameplay time, The Ritual reveals many secrets from the obscure past and gives answers to inexplicable events from the storyline in the main game. Viktoria is the sister of Benedek and wife of Nikolay, the two playable characters in the main game. You can now finally delve into her side of the story and experience what happened the night before the start of the main game. Follow a woman battling her own demons in this brand-new storyline as she tries to get redemption by finding out what happened to her missing father. Prepare to return to Sveti Kotar in Saint Kotar: The Ritual – a free DLC available to all owners of the main game. In Saint Kotar, a story-and-choice driven psychological horror detective game, you play as Benedek and Nikolay – two troubled godly men in search for their missing relative in an ancient God-devoted town called Sveti Kotar. Here, an unknown presence preys upon the weak and sways on devil worship and witchcraft. Evidence points to your missing relative being involved in the grisly murders and the occult, but what is the truth? Are you also to blame for what happened?
Will you put the pieces together and unravel the truth behind the town’s centuries-old horrid presence? Or is madness going to be your fate? Unhelpful and unfriendly townspeople, religious fanatism, madness, a dark forest full of crows, lots of dialogue (mostly click-through-it-all, but a few times with story-changing choices), but not many puzzles, a dark story, optional side-quests… You can die, but normally you start again from an autosave a few seconds before. To my surprise, there was one situation where the game saved in a deadend – no matter what I did, I always died. Only loading an earlier save allowed me to continue. (Update: Has been fixed with patch 1.0.3). Also, the game branches with completely different outcomes and many optional achievements and optional solutions to puzzles. I finished the game with only 18/42 cheavos, and my ending was… well, maybe not the perfect one. Maybe I shouldn’t have lied so much. Fully voiced, hotspots can be shown, double click to run, ultrawidescreen is not supported (but you can play distortion-free on an ultrawidescreen monitor using a window). Cutscenes are just dark screens with sound, and there are quite a lot of them. Controller works but it is a bit difficult to select the correct dialogue options with it.

Edit: well, I finished the game and I can say that definitely play through it again. There are a couple of spots where I know different choices would have brought different outcomes, and I’m eager to try them out. Nice job devs, the farther I got into the game the better it got. The game is a good adventure, and I hope we get more of them in the future. I was a Kickstarter backer for this game. The devs are from Croatia, as am I, and I was happy to donate for a digital copy of the game. As a long time gamer who played all the classics of the point’n’click genre (Monkey Island, Longest Journey, etc…), this game reminds me of the golden age of adventure genre (2000’s). Think of it as a cross between Gabriel Knight 3, Broken Sword and the Longest Journey. One thing to keep in mind: this is a product by a small studio. If you go into this expecting big budget adventure game you will be disappointed. You can see it’s a labour of love, and I’m glad I supported the devs early on. There aren’t many adventure games of this type coming out today, so I appreciate the effort.
