SKULL CHAINZ Direct Download
Smash your way out of Hell in SKULL CHAINZ, an arcade physics-based combat game! Beheaded for unspeakable crimes, you are now a mere skull… but when chained with another, you become an unstoppable force of violence! Simple to learn but hard to master, swing your flail into your enemies to burst them into chunks of gore and bone – Just don’t get hit! I’m not really super good at writing these, so I’m just gonna write the review I think I’d want to see. The mechanic of constantly spinning your flail probably seems jank, or at least it did to me initially. “Oh.. do I really have to constantly spin my mouse/controller? Isn’t that gonna feel really awkward?” Surprisingly, no. It feels really good, actually, and is really responsive. The game does a VERY good job of making you feel in control, which is awesome.
A part I hadn’t really considered from just a glance though, was, even as someone who’s a giga turbovirgin and spends all day gaming, this actually made my wrist sore after like 30-60 minutes of play. At least, using a mouse. Controller support was a godsend for this game. It’s not terrible or anything on mouse, don’t get me wrong, but the difference is night and day. The reason it made me sore is just simply because, it’s not a movement you really make all that often playing any other game. The closest comparison I can think of is like, looking around frantically in an FPS or something, but, that’s obviously for short bursts at a time, whereas this is a constant thing you’re doing like 90% of the time. Controller is WAY better (for me) because moving an analog stick in odd directions constantly is something your hand is really used to doing, at least comparatively.

And because I anticipate that there might a few odd reviews like this; the game feels extremely fair. When you die, you can clearly identify that it’s because you messed something up, even in the hardest stages in the game. It’s really hard at some parts, but, it’s ALWAYS fair. Chao’s really an incredible game dev, and put a ton of effort and resources into making sure the game feels great, even if you’re eating mad . There’s even a neat GIF recording feature built into the game, if you seriously wanna analyze what killed you, or, record like a cool play or something. Buy the game, it’s rad The concept is great, the gimmicks are varied and plentiful, and the game manages to be difficult without straddling the line between BS and fair. While it is short (my initial playthrough clocked around 40 minutes, with an additional 10 or so being idle at the menu), I liked what time I spent on this game. Just please don’t use this game’s short duration to refund it afterwards. Indie developers really do need to eat and this arcade game has so far flown under the radar of a lot of people
