Each loop brings you closer to the truth… Ultros is a solidly built, and interesting, take on the metroidvania genre – combining the familiar exploration, puzzle, and combat aspects with an almost roguelite loop system and its connected plant system, it’s something I honestly am enjoying a ton.

Beautiful art and music style (while the screenshots look chaotic, it is actually super easy to follow while playing) A proper story told in a mix of dialogue and illustrated cutscenes Combat is fluid and easy to learn (though the gameshow segment can get a bit fiddly – won’t say more than that to avoid spoilers) There is a lot to explore and experiment with, even though the map is only about average size. Never was left wandering aimlessly, if I was going a direction I hadn’t gone somewhere before, there was always something there Has better roguelite progression than most roguelites these days (you unlock items to keep your skills run to run) I tried a few times to intentionally get softlocked (such as not getting my tool that provides my movement tech, when going to a new area) – and there was always a way through, even if a bit more difficult.
