A young man who lost his mother recently and spends his time working as a handyman gets drawn into a large conspiracy when a deadly disease breaks out in his hometown and everyone is quarantined. Fortunately a disease hospital is rapidly built outside town to deal with the virus outbreak and treat the patients… I have to say I really enjoyed the backstory. Kind of realistic. Using classic point and click puzzles you have to find out the truth behind the disease. Collect items and use them on hotspots or other inventory items, talk to people, decipher simple codes, run back and forth between the locations… and use your multi-tool. It contains a knife, screwdriver, scissors, pincers, a bottle opener, file & wrench. Many problems can be solved with it, I would love to take it with me to use in other adventure games as well. The main problems to solve are always easy to spot (repair a car, find a journalist,…), so most of the time you know what you try to do and don’t just have to try everything on everything. You can still do that, of course.
You control the character of Harper – a handyman with a handy tool who stumbles upon a dying woman and is drawn into a quest to find the source of a deadly virus. He teams with a professor and a freelance reporter to discover that the situation is more about politics than public health (sound familiar??). What follows is a quest across locations with find-and-use inventory, hacking exercises (that are quite easy), radio signal triangulation, and some puzzles solved with environmental clues. While some inventory solutions are a bit far-fetched, most of them will make sense to an adventure gamer. The hand-drawn artwork is lovely, the voice acting is just about perfect, and the story has quite a few interesting moments. The characters are quirky and the dialog is clever and flows nicely. There are a number of locations to traverse but a map feature speeds this up in the later portions of the game. Although you do speak with a number of characters, the dialog is never overwhelming.
