In a world of spellcasters and sorcerers, Shira, a magical prodigy, made a bold choice that engendered dislike in her family – and dropped out of school to live with her girlfriend Laren. Her life seemed like a paradise, until the day her beloved suddenly asked for them to breakup, without an explanation. As if that weren’t bad enough, she was immediately afflicted with a terrible illness that left her comatose. Without a second thought, Shira sets out on a journey deep into the heart of the forest in search of her mysterious teacher Loic – and her estranged sister, the tyrant of flames. Along the way, she will be able to count on the help of her dear but cowardly friend Luka, as well as a powerful and daring rival named Jareth. Her goal is to find answers, a cure for Laren, and if possible, a way to mend their relationship in the process. The writing is pretty good and I do like the art. Unfortunately, there are still some technical issues to work out and some small localization issues with the English translation.
The game doesn’t deliver many gameplay mechanics, nor do the mechanics evolve much throughout its relatively short five to ten-hour campaign. But there is some calming clarity in this simplicity, The game consists of eight levels of varying size, where you essentially have to unpack boxes and place the items in the correct places based on the type of item they are. There is some moderate freedom in the placement process, and you won’t be penalised for placing items in slight variations, although at times, you will have to ensure some items are in the correct rooms or specific places before moving on to the next chapter. Graphically the game is beautiful and delivers an extremely soothing experience from a visual standpoint, with a clever cartoonish art style that helps carry the unspoken narrative, but just don’t expect to be blown away.

Some mods only change the appearance of the game, some add a bunch of quality-of-life improvements and some just change up mechanics, make the game easier or harder – depending on what you want or need. I experienced many moments of frustration with these games, most of them from the first and especially the second entry. There are two main umbrellas my problems fall into: no way to review dialogue and having to present something to a character to unlock more information. Moving on to unlocking dialogue or information, I want to be clear I am not talking about the magatama locks, I think they’re great and I really enjoy unlocking people’s secrets. What I’m referring to is having to spontaneously present a character with a specific item to ask them about it and having progression blocked by not doing this.
