This is a pretty short game with a simple goal but also a genuinely clever twist. You have to spot anomalies – sometimes, subtle, sometimes imposingly obvious – or else you risk your progress being reset, or worse. If you enjoy games that mess with your brain by slightly reshuffling and remixing a level, this is it. Undiluted with any extra mechanics, this is that in its purest form. You might be put off by the lack of a soundtrack, or voice acting, or any set pieces, but therein lies the appeal. There are no fanfares. You’re just here to exit the subway tunnel and hopefully not get permanently lost in the maze. What cemented this as a carefully crafted passion project was the fact that the game intelligently hands you the anomalies. They’re random, but also not; once you complete the game.
and your only goal is to find this elusive “Exit 8.” Sounds simple, right? Well, it’s anything but. The game is all about observation. You’ve got to scrutinize every nook and cranny of these dimly lit passageways for clues. It’s like the developers hid tiny breadcrumbs throughout this labyrinth, and it’s on you to piece them together. But let me tell you, it’s easier said than done. Sometimes, I felt like I was going in circles, both literally and figuratively. Graphically, it’s a treat. The way the shadows play along the walls, the eerie glow of the occasional light source. it’s all top-notch and adds to the whole vibe of being lost underground. The sound design deserves a shout-out too. There were times when the distant echoes and sound effects had me looking over my shoulder. But, and it’s a big but, the game is tough. And not always in a good way. There are moments where the lack of direction is more frustrating than challenging. There were nights I’d log off feeling more exhausted than entertained. It’s a game that tests your patience to the brink. So, to wrap this up, “Escape from the Endless: The Exit 8” is an ambitious game.

While the game initially seems like a glorified 3D Hidden Objects game with a sprinkling of Japanese horror, the game throws in some interesting anomalies that can throw off your expectations: ones that only provide sound clues, or ones that require you turning around for a second look, or ones that only begin halfway into the search, and so on. It nails the atmosphere and the puzzle elements are clever, but it’s not for the faint of heart. If you’re into games that require a lot of brainpower and don’t mind feeling a bit lost (or a lot), give it a shot. But if you’re someone who values their sanity, you might want to think twice. It’s a wild ride, but sometimes it felt like the game was playing me instead of the other way around. the dice are even loaded in favour of anomalies you haven’t seen yet, and there’s an anomaly counter that helps you finding them all. and continue forward till you find another anomaly and so on. Till you get to 8th floor. I manage to finish the game very fast, without rushing or anything, 10 minutes.
