Shadows of the Ether is a first-person horror game with spiritual touches, where you’ll have to banish an archon from the lower astral, survive, solve puzzles, explore the place, get out of there alive. Play as Alex who is a person with spiritual power who is dedicated to banishing archons from haunted places, and travels to a secluded place in the forest to face a level 6 archon, who will plunge him through the lower planes of the astral world, Alex with his power and connection with mystical beings, he will have to learn to overcome this evil because it is not what he expected. Players that are familiar with both games may end up being disappointed in the full package as not much else has changed except outside of the visual upgrades and the addition of The Writer – which feels more like a short 2 hour long DLC rather than a fully fleshed out story like The Artist and The Actor and this can lead to a sense of déjà vu, as they will have already experienced many of the scares and plot twists.
The game is visually striking and it rekindles the spine-tingling terror of the originals. While the game successfully delivers a visual treat, it’s let down by a narrative that feels at odds with itself despite all stories dealing with artistic obsession and a descent into madness. The game’s attention to detail is remarkable, showcasing lush forests, frozen tundras, and breathtaking mountain vistas. The lighting and weather effects heighten the sense of realism, making each location feel alive and dynamic. Lara’s character model and animations are meticulously designed, conveying emotions and expressions that draw players deeper into her captivating journey.
